Calgary Scientific Partners with Optimed Software Partnership created to make Electronic Health Records widely accessible
Calgary, AB – May 11, 2009 - Calgary Scientific Inc., a leading innovator in advanced visualization solutions, has partnered with Optimed Software Corporation to offer a seamless, comprehensive solution for the Electronic Health Record (EHR) distribution and viewing of laboratory and diagnostic imaging (DI) results. Through this unique solution, physicians can instantly access DI images and reports through their iPhone, laptop or desktop. This accessibility could cut wait times for imaging results by up to two weeks.
Canada Health Infoway has invested $1billion to improve the infrastructure for radiology diagnostic procedures, encouraging the conversion to digital technology so that diagnostic images can be stored and accessed electronically, with the goal of enhancing patient care and reducing system costs. That technology is largely in place in terms of image creation and storage. Now, extensive technical and financial resources are being allocated to EHR initiatives across North America. An important goal of these initiatives is to get the images to the referring physician as fast as possible.
Calgary Scientific specializes in advanced visualization software, marketed under the ResolutionMD™ brand of products, with a focus on the web-enablement of Medical IT. Optimed has developed software that integrates with Calgary Scientific’s visualization platform. This provides physicians who order lab and DI tests a secure web-based inbox for the physician to receive and sign-off regional lab results and DI reports, with immediate access from the DI reports to advanced digital medical images stored in geographically dispersed PACs systems. Physicians will be able to view DI images from their offices, operating rooms, or wherever they provide patient care. Optimed’s software is marketed as Accuro® EHR.
An agreement has been signed to license the PureWeb and ResolutionMD software to Optimed for integration into the Accuro® product line. It also allows for Optimed and Calgary Scientific to jointly market the integrated software through ‘software as a service’ (SaaS) distribution model. Optimed currently enjoys significant market penetration in the Canadian healthcare market with its Accuro product offerings, and is focused on growing market share significantly.
